DIY: give your tired jean jacket a new life with a new look
The other night at WIP in the basement of Greenhouse I met JLamar and was utterly taken with his jacket. When I asked him who designed it he told me that he made it himself and while not as easy as buying something off the rack it’s not as hard as it first looks. He took a denim jacket and painted it black (okay, this is with some specific kind of paint and I can’t remember what he said so don’t just go grab the acrylics from your art class!) and then took a sequined dress from a thrift store and sewed it on the back and shoulders.
Again, you can tell thought and planning went into this: it’s designed –not just randomly sewn on. I love how the part of the pattern he chose to use works perfectly and the way he wrapped it around the shoulders to the front for an a re-interpretation of epaulets. Seriously nice work! I have a Helmut Lang shrunken jean jacket that I’ve had forever and don’t wear that often because I’m not much of a faded blue denim kind of girl so this is inspiring me to rethink the jacket…if I do something with it I’ll post it here. And maybe JLamar can help me! (hint hint ;) )
