LUCIA CUBA
What are you currently up to?
I have recently presented my latest project “Articulo 6: narratives of gender, strength and politics” in Peru , and I am also preparing to presented it at the New York Fashion Week (0n September 8th).
From mid September 2012 until June 2013, I will participate in the Textile Arts Center (TAC) Residency program in New York -working in the development of ARTICULO 6 and its remaining “Actions”- as well as on the creation of new narratives for the project in the form of meta-garments.
My practice during this year and the following will also be complemented with Research Assistant-ships, working with designers and fashion scholars, such as Otto Von Busch and Hazel Clark, at Parsons, The New School for Design.
Who are 3 artists past or present who inspire you?
Judy Chicago (specially with “Dinner Party”), Katy Grannan and Regina José Galindo, among others.
Where do you hope to be 3 years from now?
In a place where I can keep on growing emotionally and personally, and that also allows me to keep working within the understanding of social sciences as a foundation for fashion design.
If you could live anywhere in the world but NYC where and why?
That would be in Cusco or Puno, in Peru, where everything is real.
What has been the most unexpected thing about NYC?
That it really feels like home.
