Your collection in five words effortless, architectural, elevated, textural, thoughtful
What’s the most exciting part of building your collection? Experimenting with new techniques and actually having them pan out.
Would you like to collaborate with someone and if so whom? Collaborations are the best part of the whole process! There are so many people I’d die to work with…but eventually I’d love to partner up with a makeup brand to create a custom shade of lipstick. That’d be a dream.
What era/decade in fashion inspires you the most in your work? The ’90s always seems to shine through.
What was the last item you saw or bought that really changed the way you thought about your wardrobe/style? I honestly haven’t shopped in a while, but I was looking through my closet this weekend and I have several tailored pieces that I really need to break out. I think my own personal style has become much too relaxed lately, need to bring back some structure to switch it up.
Last thing you spent $100 or more on? Nachos.
What trend do you wish would end? The peplum…there I said it.
What did you do last night? Worked. Only 1 week till fashion week!! Ahhhh.
Never would I ever…take what I do for granted
What they said: A cave – mysterious and dark from the outside, once you enter, there is always an element of surprise. With the silhouettes and cuts for Autumn/Winter 2012, there is definitely more than meets the eye.
What we say: We admit it. Prints can sometimes scare us. But we’re thrilled with Ann Yee’s subtle “cave print” that anchors this collection. The color palette of slate, concrete blue and dusty purple in both the print and throughout the collection beckon us away from the standard black wardrobe. Her chunky knit sweaters and gauzy skirts and dresses balance each other perfectly and the asymmetrical hems add visual interest and intrigue. These are pieces you’ll want now and will continue to love for the long term.

ANN YEE COLLECTION
What are you currently up to?
Preparing for September fashion week and trying to catch up on sleep! Also trying to get all my AW11 production shipped to stores. August is always an insane month!
Do you currently sell your collection somewhere ?
Yes, at select boutiques in NYC including krisTEEs in Astoria and EVA in the East Village. Also online at Farfetch.com.
Are you planning on showing at NYFW?
I’m extremely excited to be part of Gen Art’s Fresh Faces show! It’ll be my first runway presentation so I’m especially looking forward to it.
Who are 3 artists/designers who inspire you?
Cy Twombly, Iris Apfel, Hedi Slimane
Where do you hope to be in 3 years ?
I would like to be in more stores nationally and internationally and hopefully slowly foraying into more accessories like bags and shoes. Also dabbling in menswear, perhaps!?
- Chosen by GenArt as one of their Fresh Faces in Fashion!
