New York Fashion Week is finally here and with it the highly expected return of grunge and punk for autumn 2013 as part of a rock ‘n’ roll theme experts expect to see in several collections.

The first show that I had the privilege to attend was the DEGEN FW 2013 presentation. Walking into Industria Super Studio, the knitwear queen automatically made the aforementioned trend stand out. Utilizing a pallette of colors that ranged from soft greens to bright purples and a cast of models that made you feel like they were just waiting to hang out with you, it definitely smelled like teen spirit in the room. I was able to get a few words with Lindsay Degen herself (pictured left) where she mentioned intern Amy Brueck “Amy Cakes” as her muse: Free spirit, young, bright. Those were the words used to describe the 21 year old red hair fashionista and definitely fit the DEGEN collection.

Like last season fun and funky shoes were a strong component to the overall look. Shoemaker Chris Coulthrust floored me with his craftsmanship that molded beautifully with the styling of the collection.

Virus Sweater Dresses, Germy Pants and Rare Strain Pants are some of the names of pieces in the collection and rightfully so since I left the show feeling as if I caught something: a glimpse into the bright future of this artist. -Adrian J Ramos & Richie Moo

DEGEN now in UP|coming!

Lindsay Degen is yet another talented recent grad of RISD who debuted her collection of creative knit pieces this past New York Fashion Week. (This sweater she is wearing is one of her own!) If you think knitwear just means sweaters and scarves you need to check your assumptions at the door when you see her work. It’s creative and a bit cheeky and altogether unexpected…and you can see some of it here!

What are you currently up to?
I’m currently developing my spring collection- doing a lot of hand knitting. I am also trying to be more active in knitting circles and learning how to play guitar.

Where can we find your collections?
The SS12 collection is only available on a made to order basis which can be purchased through my website. This also means most of the pieces are some way or another customizable.

Who are 3 artists past or present who inspire you?
Bill Traylor, Patti Smith, and Bruce Springsteen…(there are many more than 3 and those may not even be my top 3 but were the first to come to mind. R Kelly might also make that list)

Where do you hope to be 3 years from now?
hope to have a collection that is sold in a bunch of cool stores while still keeping the handmade quality and beautiful materials. Translation: I hope I don’t have to get a real job!

Props
Anna Wintour sent me a personalized thank you note!! The biggest props I could ask for!
