Effie looks glam in NOT by Jenny Lai & Givenchy

Effie Liu in Jenny Lai/NOT and Givenchy on the highline
There’s the little black dress and then there’s your perfect little black dress. For Effie it’s a custom NOT by jenny lai pillow case dress that’s simply flattering in the front with a surprise opening in the back. She’s wearing it with a Givenchy birds of paradise scarf (on her head), Yves Saint Laurent platform pumps, and a Givenchy bag.

And this is the cross body Givenchy bag that I almost got last year to use as a camera bag during fashion week but decided for that it wasn’t big enough. Looking at it now though, I kind of wish I did! Since by now you know this girl loves fashion...here are a few of her other favorite things!
Food: Afternoon tea because it’s cute and delicious!
Drink:
Can’t go wrong with water.
Book:
Vogue, baby!
Recent song or album:
No Doubt “Settle Down”.
Artist:
Keith Haring.
NYC spots:
coffee at Ground Support in Soho and walking around town, and sitting along the waterfront in Long Island City while the sun goes down.
LA spots:
Brunch at Gjelina, followed by coffee at Intelligentsia — It’s kind of a tradition my best friend and I have when I’m in LA working with PNKYSWR.
NYC spot for creative inspiration:
Something about riding the metro makes me write songs!
Vacation/getaway spot:
I’m currently in love with London. I tend to get away from the city only to go to another city.
Indulgence:
getting custom NOT by Jenny Lai pieces made on a whim.
Fashion designer:
Rick Owens and Alber Elbaz.
Article of clothing:
Rick Owens silk hooded jacket from SS ’10. I literally had to hunt it down.
Go-to cosmetic:
YSL Rouge Voluptè No. 11. It matches my hair and lasts all day!
Fave thing about being in PNKYSWR:
Seeing people sing and dance to our songs when we play shows!
Historical time period that you never experienced (and why):
The future (not really historical, I know), because I’m all about looking ahead, and that means never hanging onto the past or dwelling on anything for too long. Time only ticks forward, and so should you!

An oversized sun hat in the city

A few summers ago I was invited to Madrid for a special event by J&B Whisky. Anyways, I was interviewed by a paper there and they asked me what surprised me the most about the people in Madrid: and I, perhaps rashly, stated their disregard for the sun. Maybe it’s because my background is half Norwegian and I’m about as pale as it gets or maybe it’s all the magazines telling me I will save zillions of dollars in plastic surgery later if I pay attention to my skin now but I am slightly obsessed with sun protection. Okay, that’s a lie. I’m totally obsessed. Which is why this woman caught my eye when she walked by me. I am always interested in seeing how you can wear a sun hat in the city without looking like you got lost on your way to the beach. I think she does a pretty good job with the simple shift dress and I hope to bring you more city sunhat styles this summer!

the LBD goes casual

The Little Black Dress is every girl’s evening “go to” item. But depending on the dress and how it’s styled it can work perfectly during the day too. Here the over the knee socks and studded black loafers add an unexpected charm…and her hat tops it off. (pun intended!)

Tibi or not to be…the perfect little black dress

I know this is wildly, wickedly over-exposed. But I like it. It makes it all about the dress. This is a beautiful black metallic jacquard sleeveless dress from Tibi and I’m debating wearing it to a friend’s wedding in the city next week…though probably not with the boots -they’ll debut at NYFW!

Kara & Catherine on the Lower East Side

Kara + Catherine on the L.E.S. The little black dress has timeless appeal. The other girl is rocking a slightly boho/slightly “I randomly threw on what was clean in my closet and it works” look –a technique that every twenty-something girl must be familiar with.
