Don’t tread on Niko

If you go out at night downtown in NYC chances are you know Niko. A dear friend of mine, he is always sharply dressed. (It probably doesn’t hurt he has the inside track at Moschino!) I once showed up at one of his events in a (god forbid) knee length down jacket that would not exactly be considered the height of fashion outside of Minnesota. I made one of those off-the-cuff comments like “I can’t believe I’m wearing this but it’s sooo cold out.” To which Niko replied, “You know how to avoid these kind of situations? Never buy anything that you wouldn’t want to be seen in!” Admittedly, a bit harsh, but something I’ve completely taken to heart. And it’s clear that he follows his own advice!
Detail shot of his Moschino vest and tie. I’ll admit I wasn’t always as familiar with this label as I am with American labels but not only is Moschino great design, there is a sly sense of humor always at work and apparent here as well!

Carrie & Don chillin’ at the bar

Sometimes we’re not trying to make a fashion statement. Sometimes we’re just out having a good time with friends. And the fact that we look good…is just a given. So here’s a little shout out to more subtle style…hope everyone is having a great and relaxing holiday weekend away from with family.

Gypsy girl

This girl makes me think of Stevie Nicks and California with her long wavy hair and black vest over a black velvet dress. The thigh high stockings with platform mary janes complete the look. There’s not much more to say…pass the cherry wine…

Vintage Style at Ludlow Manor

I think I could post couples all week…maybe I will, we’ll see! I met Albert & Vanessa over the weekend and thought they had great energy and kind of fell for her old Hollywood vibe. I also noticed when I reviewed the shot that she’s wearing the Addison boots by Alexander Wang that I completely covet! And I kind of love how the red rim on his hat matches her lipstick. I’m sure that’s unintentional but works great in the photo.

A Guy and his Doll at the Ludlow Manor opening

Last night was the official opening of Ludlow Manor, the new lower east side nightclub and vision of Luc Carl. A well known downtown character, Luc Carl has achieved a certain notoriety due to his past with Lady Gaga –something which may or may not be mentioned in his memoir that’s coming out “The Drunk Diet -How I lost 40 pounds….wasted” next year.

Since Carl is known for having a rock edge/aesthetic I was impressed by the breadth of style I saw at the opening –as well as how warm and friendly everyone was. He clearly has a large group of friends/supporters. Pictured here is Savoia of the House of Savoia. Everything he’s wearing is House of Savoia except for the vintage German motorcycle coat. With him is actress Katie Chonacas wearing a Mikimoto pearl & diamond necklace, Givenchy dress, vintage Chanel coat and Chanel Bag. Fabulous.
