Kate on the Highline
I normally avoid the Highline park on the weekend because it’s so crowded with tourists it makes it impossible to walk. But it was so beautiful this past weekend I couldn’t help but venture onto it. And I’m glad I did because I saw Kate who was wearing a nice mix of girlie (white cotton blouse, braids) and cool (oxblood boots, black leather jacket) and was a standout in a sea of jeans.
Paint it black
I get all excited when people wear prints and color because New Yorkers are known for wearing all black all the time. But I can get excited about all black too. (maybe I’m just excitable?) Anyways when you look this stylish why not just make it a uniform?
the cool ones
She’s looking oh-so-Laurent and he is safely cool in narrow but not skinny pants and a classic moto jacket. And I’m a wee bit hungover from my birthday soiree so I’ll let the picture do the talking today. xo
Bright in Blue
Along with emerald green, a bright and bold blue has been everywhere lately. It’s a color that I think is kind of hard to pull off but she does a good job by pairing it with black.
Andrej Pejic in leather
I was taken with Andrej Pejic’s leather jacket at an event recently. The chains and studs are like an update or re-think to punk…speaking of which I’m already looking forward to the Met’s upcoming exhibit Punk: from Chaos to Couture which doesn’t even open until May.
vintage fur + moto jacket + evening dress = a look we like
When I saw this girl I immediately knew I wanted to share her look. She’s wearing a vintage piece over a motorcycle jacket and both are worn over an elegant dress with flats!
Here’s a close up because I don’t think the texture details translate fully in the full length.
NYC downtown style
There’s something about these girls that feels vintage New York to me. Yes, this photo is from 2012 but if someone said it was from 2002 or ’92 or somewhere mid ’80s and I didn’t look too closely I’d believe it. Candy colored hair, black, fur or fake fur, motorcycle jackets, leather cap, big earrings…these are the things that you’ll see at night in NYC no matter the era.
A perfect summer city look
Two strong spring trends: top knot and printed pants
I see printed pants and jeans on all my favorite online stores but I’m not sure they’re something I can get behind for myself. But when I see someone pulling them off successfully like her, it makes me rethink it. I also love the top knot which I’ve been seeing everywhere downtown.
90s grunge via 2012
There’s something about a babydoll dress that will always be near and dear to my heart. While in the ’90s this would have been worn with Doc Martens and the boyfriend’s leather, Eden updates it with lace up shoes and a cropped jacket. And the champagne cork as necklace suggests she’s a girl with a sense of humor about style and knows how to have fun.
