Recently we were invited to The Westway to attend a party for the collaboration between Moschino–a favorite fashion house– and DISARONNO–the bestselling Italian liquer in the world. The DISARONNO and Moschino project will support the charity Fashion 4 Development (sponsored by the United Nations) through a donation of its profits to help the development of this unique initiative in Africa. The overall mission of Fashion 4 Development is to harness the power of the fashion and beauty industries in order to implement creative strategies for sustained economic growth and development in countries worldwide.
The exclusive “MOSCHINO loves DISARONNO” limited edition will be available this November for $24.99 at stores nationwide or through www.1-877-spirits.com.
Niko Liakaris is our #FF this week! He is also one of my closest friends and has been since we first met. And how that happened is a good story, but you’ll have to hear it from Niko because he tells it better than I do…and if you live in NYC and go out at night you either already know Niko or will probably meet him. Because he’s not “the guy who knows everyone” but the person who is so comfortable in their own skin that they have a natural warmth and crazy charisma that attracts a complete mix of people, and when he meets someone new he immediately welcomes them in and introduces them to others and the circle just grows. An original kid from Queens he’s equally comfortable with the mavens at Moschino as he is with the rock-and-rollers on the lower east side and the older residents who still actually live at the Gramercy Park Hotel and have since it was an apartment building.
He’ll be writing again for StyleDefined NYC during fashion week which thrills me to no end! And if you want to find him he’s also at the Moschino Boutique in the meatpacking district and Tuesday and Thursday evenings holding court during Brian Newman’s set at the Rose Bar. Oh, and if you sadly aren’t in NYC then you can always follow him on twitter or instagram -because trust me, we all need a little Niko in our life.
Today’s #FF is the amazing Sophia Lamar. Normally we pick photos that show the lives of our friends but Sophia is such an iconic style inspiration to us that we mostly chose a selection that showcased her varied –yet always gorgeous– looks! We also want to give a Happy Birthday shout out to her as well! And if you want to wish her a Happy Birthday tweet to her or send her an instagram!
Excuse the self indulgence but today is my birthday so I decided to post a picture of myself –more personal style, than street style but then I renamed this section NYC style so it should fit! And for the record my top/dress is by 5preview, boots are my Jeffrey Campbell for Nasty Gal and bag (below) is Stella McCartney.
It’s been about 4 years since I started StyleDefined NYC and since that beginning it has led to some amazing opportunities: from working with brands like Sebastian and Sony to being flown to Madrid for a party by J&B Whisky to total immersion in the insanity that is New York Fashion Week. Never did I imagine all the adventures I’d have because of it.
But what I appreciate even more are all the amazing people I’ve met. I moved back to NYC 4 years ago knowing a handful of people –literally– and now can go out any night and be guaranteed to run into friendly familiar faces. I don’t take this for granted and want to give a shout out to a few people who not only have enriched my life but have added to the richness of SDNYC. First and foremost: Niko Liakaris who I met when he mistook me for another photographer and is now a bestie. -and a writer for SDNYC! Sophia Lamar who used to intimidate the shit out of me but whom I adore and consider my personal style icon. And the duos of: Emily and Abigail aka the Wanderlust Girls and Richie Moo & Adrian who are always game to be part of any crazy project that comes to mind and I can rely on for great looks to photograph.
I know this post is a little long but fuck it: it’s my birthday and I wanted to express my gratitude to those who have helped make having this site so much fun. Lastly then I’d like to thank my Official Girlfriend, Karen, who has been a source of sanity behind the scene along with our brilliant pup Nasdaq. (Yes, as in the stock market!)
Sophia Lamar: Actor, nightlife celebrity and one of the most influential NYC downtown personalities. Life is always a little more exciting, a little more adventurous and a whole lot more glamorous when she’s in the room.
Sophia, je t’adore
Today was my shoot with my favorite New Yorkers wearing 5Preview tees. At the top of my list is Sophia Lamar as regular readers will know. I loved how fabulously she worked her own outfit that I shot her after the shoot as well! Can we say mad for plaid? Only Sophia can make plaid pants look this good. For realzzzz!
Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Ralph Lauren…even a girl from Arcadia, Iowa is familiar with those names. And while of course they put on fantastic shows I was wondering what shows some of my fashion forward friends were most interested in seeing this season. So I asked a few…
Sophia Lamar: Glamorous Iconic New Yorker
Who she’s interested in seeing: Alexander Herchcovitch, Rad Hourani, Chris Benz and Costello Tagliapietra
Why: Each of them present different perspectives of style and a daring attitude toward the business –sacrificing profit for style and innovation.
Stephanie Pappas: Owner of EVA New York, an independent boutique that carries the best of emerging design talent.
Who she’s interested in seeing & why: threeASFOUR because they put on an amazing show that is always inspiring. I believe they are some of the most creative talents in NY!!
Dominic Louis because he is one of New York’s new rising stars and his shows are often beyond Fashion Shows. This season it’s going to be a video. Many of my favorite creatives have collaborated on it.
Beagy Zielinski : Fashion Stylist
Who she’s interested in seeing: G-Star & MM6 Maison Martin Margiela.
Why: Every year I say G-Star is my favorite show to go to because for many years it was one of the only shows during NYFW that was an actual show with theatrical production. There is always some surprise action happening, a moving runway, surprise guests, major choreography…etc After attending 60-70 shows of just models walking back and forth, it is something different to enjoy and keeps things interesting and recharges me.
MM6 Maison Martin Margiela actually doesn’t normally show in NY so I am excited to see the show and hoping it will be an interesting production and of course I can’t wait to see the collection.
MM6 Maison Martin Margiela | G-Star
As for me? Well my schedule will be posted on the side! >>>
