Summer suiting – borrowed from the boys!

I’ve been reading about the “borrowed from the boys” trend for awhile now. But it’s different seeing real women pulling it off instead of a model in a magazine professionally styled. (or a model on the streets of NYC) I don’t know about you but I have been afraid to try it for fear of looking like a corporate businesswoman who shops at Banana Republic and Ann Taylor. No offense to the corporate ladies or those stores but that’s all about “fitting in” more than fashionably standing out! (and yes, i know with blonde and blue asymmetrical hair no one would mistake me for a corporate ladder climber, but you know what I mean)  Anyways looking through my recent photos I realized I had 2 great examples so thought I’d share with you!

This is a full on matching pants and jacket. Why it works: the fabric is a light brocade which dresses it up and the pants have a nicely narrow cut. Also the slightly sheer shirt is nice and the heels add just the right pop of color and sex appeal.
She’s wearing a sheer black shirt and black pants/leggings. Alone and with heels she’d look like a club girl (not a bad thing but a different look) Adding the jacket “classes” up the look and makes it more appropriate for other events. The flat sandals and over sized clutch are also smart choices. But my favorite detail is the white manicure and black pedicure!

Margo near Milk Studios

I saw Margo on the street and we were both on our way to Milk Studios. Both her super high platform shoes and big hair add to her “larger than life” style. Mostly I’m not a fan of 100% sheer skirts but it works with her overall look (let’s call her the exception to the rule) and I love how her tights match her bunny earred cell phone cover!

Seeing Stripes

I saw Ellie on Broadway yesterday and while it was her striped leggings that first grabbed my attention what really held it was the insane top knot. Seriously huge. Which I love. And with the RayBans? Perfect. Wow, I’m writing in fragments. Better go get a bit more coffee while you enjoy Ellie’s style ;)

Spring 2012 crop top trend done right

We’ve seen crop tops before but the Spring 2012 collections showed them a bit differently: many that were more like bra tops (Dolce and Gabbana) or bandeaus (Prada)  and definitely worn with something high waisted. This girl is so on trend it’s sick. And yet she really seems to have made this hard to pull off look her own instead of just copying the runway.

Jonna in Gerlan Jeans top and hot pink keds

This top is the Poltergeist Cut0out top in slime time print from Gerlan Jeans spring 2012 collection – a label known for its bright and crazy patterns and streetstyle influence. I don’t know if I’d be bold enough to wear lime green but Jonna rocks it with polka dots and hot pink keds.

And we have to give props to her glitter bomb nails.

the family that is stylish together…

I have no idea who this threesome is, but I do know that they ALL have amazing style! A feat in and of itself. Normally I don’t shoot kids but I had to make an exception here. TOO CUTE.
