Polka dots and defined brows
Okay I’ve seen these kind of uber-defined strong brows on the runway and on several of my gay boys. Now I’m starting to see it on girls off the runway and I’m intrigued. What do you think of this aesthetic? Do you like it? Would you do it? I personally feel it’s fresh but my fringe hides my brows as it is so won’t be trying it anytime soon.
Pale on Pale
I’ve always been worn off wearing pale colors because I could end up looking washed out with my white hair and pale skin. I don’t usually pay attention to this and will just wear a bit more makeup to even things out. Apparently Samuel (pictured above) doesn’t listen to this advice either and the result is great.
Especially love how the nails, his hair and his top all have the same pale beige:pale green ratio. Kinda brilliant…
New Wave circa now
A friend of mine who’s a cinephile said this girl reminded her of a young Annette Bening. This, I don’t know about…but the short hair, Ray Bans and blue suede shoes gives her look a distinctly ’80s vibe. But the New Wave ’80s ala Talking Heads etc as opposed to the more colorful pop aesthetic of the period…
Our oh-so-fashionable friends at #NYFW
What can I say? I love to see Marcus Mason and Kristin Prim during fashion week. They always turn it out and still keep it real –meaning they look as good whenever I see them and they’re not just dressing for the camera. I didn’t get the details of what they were wearing but if you want to know, I will!

Kate Lanphear outside the Standard
Okay, it’s true that she has the advantage of being the ultimate fashion insider so probably has access to all kinds of clothes mere mortals only dream about. And the fact that she’s statuesque ensures that she’s always wearing the clothes and not vice versa. But along with every other street style photographer I love to see her looks during NYFW and this one’s no exception.
Raybans in white?
Add gloves for a dash of panache
Nothing wrong with the little black dress, but sometimes it’s nice to see another color –even a neutral like grey. (which is actually one of my favorite colors) I’m also intrigued by the elbow length gloves. I think gloves are starting to make a comeback as a fashion statement. Thoughts???
Don’t tread on Niko
If you go out at night downtown in NYC chances are you know Niko. A dear friend of mine, he is always sharply dressed. (It probably doesn’t hurt he has the inside track at Moschino!) I once showed up at one of his events in a (god forbid) knee length down jacket that would not exactly be considered the height of fashion outside of Minnesota. I made one of those off-the-cuff comments like “I can’t believe I’m wearing this but it’s sooo cold out.” To which Niko replied, “You know how to avoid these kind of situations? Never buy anything that you wouldn’t want to be seen in!” Admittedly, a bit harsh, but something I’ve completely taken to heart. And it’s clear that he follows his own advice!
Detail shot of his Moschino vest and tie. I’ll admit I wasn’t always as familiar with this label as I am with American labels but not only is Moschino great design, there is a sly sense of humor always at work and apparent here as well!

Steal this style from the boys
Ever since I saw Rooney Mara kicking ass as Lisbeth Salander in the new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie recently, I’ve been inspired to play with the androgynous/edgy aesthetic of the character. The H&M line based off the costumes though is for the most part pretty lame. Boring sweats and ripped and “worn” t-shirts & denim that look like Forever 21′s idea of grunge. Looking at this photo of Chase and Joey of The Black Soft, I realized their look is more of what I had in mind. Picture the Lars Andersson sweater/leather pants/studded jacket look on the left with short black platform boots…perfection. So guys, I just might have to borrow from your closet! ;)
Shredded Style
A super-over-sized shredded tee by Raquel Allegra with glitterfest leggings? Call me a skeptic but if someone described this to me I would think: Heinous. But seeing it? An altogether different story. or narrative. or haiku. (haiku?!?) My point? It works. She looks sexy/edgy/cool and comfortable. Which I’m sure was her exact intention.
