PIPS

Where: 158 Roebling Street, between Grand & Metropolitan Ave
When: everyday 6 pm – midnight

In general our SDNYC “finds” are retail, but sometimes an exception has to be made. Such is the case for PIPS a brand new Williamsburg joint that is all about table tennis (aka as ping-pong to regular plebes like me) PIPS, which opened in early July 2011 feels more like your best friend’s basement rec room than anything else. It has two tables, music, art and posters on the walls and a bar that serves beer and wine. The sickest thing about this place is that it’s all pay what you like. Yes, I’m serious. During a recession how brilliant is that? So I know that when you go you will be generous for your Karma’s sake. And because your mom raised you to do the right thing.

OAK NYC

Where: 28 bond st. manhattan, 208 north 8th st. williamsburg bk
OAK NYC

Oh Oak…you make me part ways with my cash faster than anywhere else! Whether it’s an Alexander Wang overcoat or Chris Habana jewelry I cannot leave without a new treasure. And for the budget minded you started the genius A.OK collection…and of course you are in two of my favorite ‘hoods. Down on Bond St and in Williamsburg.

Alter

Where: Williamsburg BK @ 407 Graham Ave & Greenpoint BK @ 140 Franklin St
http://alterbrooklyn.blogspot.com/

After their first two locations flourished in Greenpoint (since opening in 2007 and 2008), Alter co-owners Tommy Cole and Roy Caires opened another outpost on Graham Avenue in October 2010. Unlike Alter’s other gender-specific stores, the Williamsburg spot carries a co-ed selection of shoes, clothing, and accessories. Neatly organized racks and tables display a collection of asymmetric and minimalistic clothing that includes brands like Cheap Monday, Kill City, and Rojas. The small shoe selection is consistently stocked with oxfords, boots, and heels from brands like Jeffrey Campbell and Melissa, which complement the trendy, cotton-jersey- and plaid-centric clothes.
